Many students enjoy the flexible scheduling and control they have over their own learning when taking an online course. However, it is important to note that online courses are just as demanding as traditional courses, while requiring the you to learn new ways of participating and interacting with the instructor, fellow students, and the course content.

Knowledge of Computers and Software:
- understand the concepts and basic functions of a Windows or Mac operating system
- save to disks, find files, create directories, run/execute programs on a Windows or Mac computer
- copy and paste text, images, etc. from one application to another
- create, edit, and save (in various formats) a document using word processing software
- install and uninstall software
- upload and download software and files
Information Retrieval:
- understand and have a working knowledge of the web and its functions
- understand basic site navigation, searching, and installing and upgrading a web browser
Electronic Communication:
- understand use of e-mail, including sending and receiving file attachments
- familiarity with interactive electronic discussion systems (Yahoo Chat, AIM, etc.)
- experience using streaming media players such as RealPlayer and Media Player
